SuSan SoRreLL - Susan Sorrell has always had a “wild imagination” growing up. She didn’t become serious about art, until she made it her major at Winthrop
University. Earning a Bachelor’s degree in Visual Design, Susan worked for a short time as a graphic artist, and
then decided to get her Masters in Education at Converse College, to teach art. Susan calls
herself a “mixed media” artist, since she likes to dabble in a lot of different medias. Combining painting, sewing, beading, printing and embellishing on
fabric has opened new avenues to express herself.
Her recent series of work,
“Southern Fried Fiber” is inspired by her “Southern” roots.Susan lives in Greenville, South Carolina and is married to John DeLeon. To view more of Susan Sorrell work visit
her website creativechick.com and she teaches online fiber art classes through her website and other art
websites.
Margaret - SlyMagpie - My mother has a jaw dropping collection of antique and vintage jewelry that has eternally fascinated me. My favorite pieces change often and I love opening her jewelry
boxes and looking at them with new eyes. I also love to steal them, so I now have a lovely collection to inspire me. At night, I lie awake thinking about what I’m going to do the next day with my blowtorch
and gems. Things like seeds, the crease down the middle of a blade of grass and the way a stone looks when you hold it up to the sun are my inspiration. I live among the art and bluegrass of Louisville, KY
and spend my days creating jewelry and pleading with my one year old son to stop eating things he finds on the floor. Possibly, I should spend more time vacuuming. My husband is not only funny and handsome,
but incredibly supportive. I’m sure he’d wear my jewelry every day if he were a girl. It’s a sweet life. Visit my shop and my blog!
